Don't you wish that people would quit falling for scam after scam? This is why the online wholesale scammers are staying in business and even multiplying. The simple fact is that as long as there are gullible buyers out there, then the scam artists will continue to thrive. Let's face it, how much are you actually saving on that shipment of Ipods that you intend to sell on Ebay if you NEVER RECEIVE YOUR ORDER? And in a down economy people get more desperate; they do things that they would not normally do -- so watch out when you are looking for your next discount supplier. In an effort to fight this movement, we've put together a few pointers that may help you.

*Don't trust anyone or any company unless you personally check them out first. You can check nearly anything online, so get creative and contact a few people who have purchased from that seller before.

* Some wholesale suppliers knowingly sell fake imitations of designer clothing or other item, so make sure that you are dealing with only those suppliers who disclose this properly. Most will tell you "yes, that is not a real Chi, it is a 'Cho'". Do not deal with those who try to pass off the fake as the original. Keep in mind that many consumers don't give a rat's ass if the thing is real or not - they just want others to think it is. But don't confuse the end consumer with the reseller. If someone plans on reselling an item that is clearly a knockoff, they MUST disclose this in the item description.

* The wholesale suppliers may claim that they take only cash or wired money. Skip these idiots. Any legit wholesaler would be set up for multiple payment options. I won't say any more here -- if you're dumb enough to fall for this one, then their is no hope for you. Stop reading this article.

RED ALERTS:

* They have a Fake address - either it doesn't exist or it exists in a poor or residential area. Or, it is so generic that it looks suspicious, such as 100 Main Street.

* You notice that there are no contact details listed on the website.

* When you call, the telephone is answered by an individual who does not identify himself on picking up the phone.

* You are not asked for a business or tax id number.

* The company suddenly stop replying to your emails.

* Parts of the text or images on their site are copies from other websites.

* When you place an order, the company claims they do not have any stock, but want to receive the money before ordering any in.

* Your contact becomes shifty when you ask for a product sample

Steps to Protecting Yourself

To find out whether you are dealing with a wholesale scammer, try these tips:

* Copy and paste some text into Google. If it is copied from another site, you'll soon discover it in the search results.

* Check that the website gives a full business name and a registration number.

Ring them to verify the phone number given is good, but don't accept a mobile phone number as enough, all companies should have a land line number.

* As for a photograph of the stock with the company logo in the background. Go to www.coolwhois.com and search for the name of the website. A legitimate company will have been operating for over a year (at least!) and their expiration date will be for several years time. Most legitimate companies reserve their domain names for 3-5 years or more at a time.

* Use secure payment methods such as Escrow, Cod and Paypal Verified whenever possible.

* Ask other sellers what their experiences have been with the company on forums.

I recommend that you join a trusted wholesale supplier network. Make sure that the network provides several thousand different sellers, complete with ratings, reviews, tips on selling, drop shipping options, and a decent forum so that you can readily check on your next supplier. Carefully screened wholesale suppliers can ensure that you are not taken advantage of.
