Each week the popular Internet radio talk show "Sins of Omission" with Host Paulie Abeles features in-depth hour-long interviews with newsmakers designed to give listeners insight into current events 'beyond the nightly news'.
TONIGHT:
Wildlife trafficking is considered by experts to be the third largest black market in the world accounting for $10 billion dollars a year, according to the U.S. State Department.
Between 2 and 5 million birds—particularly from South America- account for the majority of the poached and stolen animals. No one knows how many die in transit. But authorities trying to stem the tide of the theft and slaughter run afoul of local traditions and cultures of indigenous people that have harvested the animals for centuries. For many smugglers, trafficking in wild animals represents the only source of income they have to survive.
What is the scope of the problem and what can be done?
Or guest Tonight is uniquely qualified to provide answers to these questions.
